About Us

A board certified surgeon who takes the time.

The founder and president of Easton Eye Consultants, PC, is Kambiz Negahban, M.D., a board certified world class physician and surgeon. He grew up in Beverly Hills, California, and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Southern California before being accepted to the Boston University School of Medicine.

After completing his residency at Boston University, Dr. Negahban spent an extra year of fellowship in cornea and laser vision correction with Dr. Howard Leibowitz. He was then offered the position of Chief of Cornea and Refractive Surgery — at age thirty, one of the nation’s younger directors of that section — and took over the fellowship directorship, teaching numerous ophthalmologists to perform corneal transplants and LASIK/refractive eye surgery.

In 2004 he received Boston University’s Teacher of the Year award from the university’s ophthalmology residents. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters on cataracts, systemic diseases and laser vision correction, and was included among America’s top ophthalmologists for cataracts and refractive surgery for 2007 and 2008.

He founded Easton Eye Consultants to have more time to treat and care for his patients — a surgeon with a reputation as competent, ethical, honest and ultimately caring, who knows you are trusting him completely with your priceless vision.

Our Services

An extensive line of services, one honest conversation.

Our experience lets us provide answers to all your vision questions. These are some of our more popular services — and no one is forced into a treatment plan that’s not right for them.

Comprehensive Eye Exam

A thorough checkup to diagnose any problems and keep your eyesight healthy: pupils checked for optic nerve disease, astigmatism and near or far-sightedness assessed, glaucoma screening, and a dilated funduscopic exam to detect retinal disease. Your questions are answered in terms you can easily understand.

Emergency Eye Care

An injury or irritation can bring extreme discomfort and impaired vision. If you have a condition that needs immediate attention, call (508) 238-2388. After regular office hours, leave a message and the call is forwarded to Dr. Negahban.

Advanced Refractive Surgery

All-Laser custom LASIK to improve your vision and lower your prescription; flapless LASIK (PRK, LASEK or surface ablation), generally for patients with thin corneas; and implantable contact lenses — a permanent option for those with extreme nearsightedness, or who aren’t good LASIK candidates.

LASIK “Touch-Ups”

After any LASIK procedure, small changes to your prescription can occur. Custom laser technology can repair those minor imperfections so you don’t have to rely on glasses or contacts.

Eyelid Plastic Surgery

Cosmetically repairs the signs of aging for a more youthful appearance, and can improve peripheral vision and reduce the need to strain your eyes.

Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane & Radiesse

Careful application by an experienced eye doctor can reduce or eliminate wrinkles around your eyes and keep skin fresh and smooth.

Advanced Cataract Surgery

Done with limited, local sedation, this surgery replaces an aged, cloudy lens with a new clear one for instant benefits and restored vision. Dr. Negahban is one of only a handful of surgeons in New England qualified to perform all-laser, bladeless cataract surgery with the LenSx laser.

Multi-focal & Accommodative Lens Placement

Premium and advanced IOL technology that eliminates the need for reading glasses for patients who would otherwise receive a fixed-focus lens in cataract surgery.

Pterygium Surgery

A pterygium is a membrane that grows over the cornea and can cause astigmatism or lead to blindness. It can be removed under local anesthesia using amniotic membrane techniques — often with surgical glue alone, without sutures.

Glaucoma Surgery & Treatment

Laser technology reduces the high pressure within the eye that can damage the optic nerve and cause blindness if untreated, and can reduce or eliminate the need for eye drops.

Diabetic & Hypertensive Retinopathy

Laser surgery proven to halt the progression of diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and improve vision, before bleeding, retinal damage or detachment can take hold.

Chalazion & Surgical Management

A chalazion — a lump in the eyelid that resembles a sty — can be drained in a brief office procedure with local anesthetic, without scarring or hospitalization.

Keratoconus & Corneal Transplant

Treatments such as Intacs flatten the cornea far less invasively than surgical reshaping and can prevent the need for a transplant. Dr. Negahban is also an expert in corneal transplants and has taught many other surgeons the technique.

Our Technology

Conditions once untreatable, corrected in about thirty minutes.

Using state of the art intraocular lens (IOL) advances for cataract surgery as well as LASIK, previously untreatable conditions can often be corrected in a brief procedure followed by a short recovery period. Dr. Negahban is experienced and accredited in each of the following.

The Crystalens HD lens

Crystalens HD

The first and only FDA approved accommodating intraocular lens: it moves with the eye’s ciliary muscle to help lens-implant patients see at varying distances. Conventional lenses only help with distance and still require reading glasses.

ReSTOR

Using technology similar to that used to improve images in microscopes, this surgery lets the patient see at numerous different distances without the assistance of glasses or contact lenses.

Toric IOL

Toric IOL

Cataract surgery that is also effective for the treatment of astigmatism.

IntraLase FS laser

IntraLase™ FS Laser

Laser technology for all-laser custom LASIK.

Allegretto Wave Eye-Q excimer laser

ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q

Excimer laser system for custom laser vision correction.

LenSx laser for cataract surgery

LenSx® Laser Cataract Surgery

An automated femtosecond laser — the first of its type approved for cataract surgery — that maps your eye to customize the surgery, with uniform, extremely accurate incisions and minimal damage to healthy tissue.

LASIK procedures, if necessary and desired, are performed at and in affiliation with The Laser Center of Massachusetts (TLC) in Waltham, 400 Fifth Avenue, Suite 510, or at The Quincy Laser Eye Center in Quincy, MA. Dr. Negahban has been associated with them for years and serves as one of their access surgeons. He also has courtesy staff privileges at Harvard’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

Free evaluations

“We offer a free evaluation to anyone who has concerns or worries about his or her vision.”

Not as thorough as a comprehensive eye exam, but a quick, simple check at no charge that gives you honest answers about your eyes and your options.

What is LASIK?

Often 20/20 or better, in a quick outpatient procedure.

The cornea is often slightly imperfect, producing myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. LASIK uses a special laser to trim the cornea and correct those imperfections, usually under local anesthetic on an outpatient basis. A small flap is created, gently lifted, and the laser sculpts the cornea before the flap is replaced.

Most people feel only mild discomfort, go home after a short rest, and resume most normal activities the next day. Most achieve 20/20 vision or better. Procedures take approximately ten minutes per eye.

Am I a candidate?

Good candidates generally share these traits.

  • At least eighteen years old, with stable vision for the past year
  • No eye infection or injury in the past year
  • No history of herpes in the eye; cornea is unscarred
  • No autoimmune disorder such as lupus, and no dry eye syndrome
  • Not nursing or pregnant
  • Pupils don’t become overly large (over 7mm) in dim light
  • Understands the risks and has realistic expectations

Dr. Negahban performs a comprehensive eye examination before discussing your case, and every question is patiently and fully answered.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

A number of non-invasive tests determine which areas of your vision need treatment or a closer look: a computerized monitor to determine the precision of your vision, glaucoma screening, color-blindness tests, and checks for astigmatism and near or far-sightedness. Dr. Negahban also takes the time to listen to any concerns you have.

Dr. Negahban may perform more tests to make a final diagnosis, then discuss how he thinks your issue should be handled given your individual needs. Some treatments can be completed during your exam visit; others require another appointment.

Most treatments are performed on site, but LASIK surgery is done at The Laser Center of Massachusetts (TLC), 400 Fifth Avenue, Suite 510, Waltham, MA 02451. Dr. Negahban is one of TLC’s access surgeons and has been affiliated with them for over five years.

Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis improves your vision by lowering your prescription. A small flap is created from a thin, superficial layer of the cornea, the refractive error is corrected, and the flap is placed back on the eye. Flapless LASIK (surface ablation — PRK and LASEK) is an alternative usually used when corneas are too thin for a flap; it’s very safe, though vision takes a bit longer to stabilize. Dr. Negahban has treated thousands of patients — from family and friends to physicians, law enforcement officers, boxers and entrepreneurs. Procedures are virtually painless and take about ten minutes per eye.

It depends on factors such as the extent of your original refractive error and your vision needs. The goal is to reduce your dependence on glasses or contacts; because of healing variations among patients, you may still need some correction for near or far.

Most side-effects are mild and short-lived: temporary fluctuations in vision for a few days, glare from lights in dark rooms or at night, and eyes drier than normal, which typically fades within two weeks. As with any surgery, risks are possible but unlikely, including infection. Dr. Negahban discusses all risks with you beforehand.

Cataracts can form in one or both eyes from aging, trauma or other causes, and may interfere with reading, cause halos around lights, or make night driving difficult. Easton Eye Consultants can treat all types, and Dr. Negahban is one of the leading Massachusetts surgeons to implant premium IOLs — such as ReSTOR and Crystalens HD — that restore distance, intermediate and near vision.

Peripheral vision can be tested accurately and painlessly. Depending on the results and a complete exam, cosmetic treatment of the area around your eyes — addressing crow’s feet and other aging effects on the skin — may produce a greater range of vision.
